We had heard about a field of wildflowers that were blooming about an hour out-of-town. We’d been told that there were thousands, if not millions, of wildflowers there. So last night hubby suggested we leave early this morning so we could photograph the flowers in the early morning light.

That sounded like a good idea. I didn’t know he meant getting up at 3:45 a.m. But we did and we were out the door at 4:08 a.m. Since there was no one on the road except us and the deer, we made good time.

We were told to take the Echo Creek trailhead road on Highway 20 toward Albany, Oregon. We turned onto a very narrow dirt road going up the side of a mountain. The forest is beautiful old growth pine that has been fortunate enough to not have been affected by wild fires. The sign said it was two miles to the trailhead but we were told that the wildflowers were in a meadow along the road to the trailhead. The farther we drove, the worse the road became until we got to a section where the road was almost completely washed away. At that point we decided that my little car might not make it through. As I said, the road was very narrow and there was a steep drop on one side. With a number of small back and forth maneuvers, we got the car turned around and headed back.
We didn’t want to have made the trip for nothing so we took a couple of other roads that looked like they were in better condition.

There was a light fog hanging over the mountains and occasionally the sun would peek through and the clouds had a nice pink glow to them.

We didn’t see our field of wildflowers on this trip, but we will keep searching.

There’s always something to photograph and make the effort worthwhile.
I really like the shot of the flowing water . . . and I hope that was not the road.
Thanks. No, that wasn’t the road. But that’s not too far off. I should have walked up a bit farther – the field of flowers was probably “just round the corner.”
Even thought you didn’t see the flowers you journey through the woods produced some beautiful pictures.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thank you. I’ve always loved the woods. I grew up in a heavily forested area and there’s always some peace and comfort there.
Lovely photos in any case… the wild flowers need wait their turn… the trees and sky got their turn today and I enjoyed everyone of them..
I’m going to do a little research on the area and see if I can find some wildflowers next weekend. 🙂
Magic! 🙂
Thanks, Zelmare. It had an enchanted forest sort of feel to it.
You got some lovely photos, all the same!
lovely lovely shots… no wildflowers but oh so lovely
Thank you, Joanna. I’m still going to go in search of wildflowers. My minds eye sees a flied of flowers like in The Sound of Music. We’ll see what I can find.
can’t wait to see what you come up with… 😀
WOW! Such a beautiful photographs you captured dear Maralee, Thank you, love, nia
It looks like you got some fabulous photos anyway that made your early morning trip worth while.
Thanks, Christine. I found another place I’m going to explore for wildflowers – hopefully this weekend. Maybe that trip will be more fruitful. 🙂
