One of the things that I love about living where I do, is the nature and wildlife living among us in the city. We are not a large city – population is about 85,000 – but we continuously have wild visitors right in the city. At our house, we have regular visits from deer, skunks, raccoon, owls, and other various wildlife.

On my lunch hour today I took a walk along the Deschutes River, which flows through town. I hadn’t been there for a couple of months so I wanted to see what was new. As I came around a corner there was a deer was standing right in the middle of the path. I paused to take a photo and another deer walked onto the path . . . then another. The three of them stood there eating off the trees for a few moments and then wandered off the path toward the river. As I continued walking, I could hear them rustling among the trees and bushes as they went in search of the water.
The wood roses were blooming and even though the sun was at its peak, they were beautiful.
There were several swans making their way down the river, dipping their heads in the water presumably to eat whatever it is they eat. On my way back, I could see a lone swan swimming near the river bank.

She was squawking at something and I soon realized it was the three deer drinking water along the bank. The swan would lunge at them and they would back up a little. The deer finally gave up and moments later they bounded across the path in front of me.

Its days like this why I love living in Bend, Oregon.

P.S. Happy First Day of Summer

Bend really is a unique and amazing place. Saw a Jerusalem Cricket outside of town the other day, it really freaked me out! Very scary looking, I thought it was a spider until we looked it up online. We got a good photo though! (oh, we saw falcons too!)
It is a beautiful place. I’ve been here 11years now and am still in awe of how beautiful it is.
I love the pics. I am thrilled with the beautiful cards that I ordered from you. Is that your granddaughter in the last pic? Very pretty girl.
Thanks Judy. That is my granddaughter but I put that in by mistake. It was meant for another post.
Sounds like Ashland. The deer act like they own the place, even using the main roads.
I think it’s probably a lot alike. The wildlife pretty much goes wherever they want. But I love that about Oregon.
You are indeed lucky to live in such a beautiful place! Lovely photos. 🙂
It is a beautiful place, but there are so many beautiful places in the world that I could live in.
You live in such wonderful spot …. with the nature just on your doorsteps – and I love that you share it with me .. this way – the photo with the deer is wonderful, so I pick that today. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful world with me.
Thanks, Viveka. I love the wildlife.
I understand why you love living there!!
Thanks, Joanna. I’ve actually loved every place that I’ve lived. Every place has it’s unique beauty.
Great story to go along with fabulous photos. I’m so jealous! 🙂
Thank you, Carissa. Have a wonderful weekend.
I just nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award! Congratulations:) Here is the link to my award post…
Nice story and beautiful photos.
Thank you very much.
The deer by the tree is something special….
I thought it was really cool. I think I’m the only one who saw them, too. There were bikers and runners on the trail, but while I was there watching the deer, no one else came by. My own special little treat.
You are then very lucky, and I’m jealous
regards Rob..
