I was hoping to get out to photograph the full moon tonight but I wasn’t sure it was going to happen. There were some pretty heavy clouds late in the afternoon that I thought would block it. But I stood in the cold by the river hoping the clouds would disperse, and they did.
The Farmers Almanac says the April full moon is called the Full Pink Moon:
Full Pink Moon – April This name came from the herb moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other names for this month’s celestial body include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and among coastal tribes the Full Fish Moon, because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn.

While waiting for the moon, I took a few other photos at the river as the sun was going down.

Maralee

Very nice. I also like the King Fisher. Photo.
Here’s an appropriate song:
Disperser, that’s nice. Thanks.
Thanks for the music track. I like it. Who’d ever thought there would be a song about a pink moon.
I heard that song a few years back on a Volkswagen commercial. I eventually found the artist, and bought the CD. A bit tragic . . . that was his last album before committing suicide.
It’s easy to say after the fact, but you can almost hear the premonition in the songs.
This was not one of those, and it’s in my playlist, so I hear it at least once or twice a week.
OH. Take my breath away awesome. The pink moon, moon with the silhouettes, the kingfisher, and the reflection, all are wonderful!!!
Thanks, Shez. I was very fortunate that everything worked in my favor. Hopefully today will be another nice day.
Great photographers see beauty others miss, but “we” still have an element of being in the right place at the right time. Many things we can anticipate like waiting by the river when it is so cold, but the Kingfisher was right place at the right time. Except for ducks they are not usually cooperative. 😉
The moon shots are incredible!
Thanks so much. It was an incredible moonrise. And nice that the clouds went away.
Staggering pics
Thank you very much.
Finally the clouds left away! The second one is amazing!!!!!As well the others 🙂
Thank you, Dimitris.
Wow! All the photos are absolutely gorgeous! 🙂
Thank you Zelmare. I was so thankful when the moon came up.
Great shots…what lens did you use for the moon pics?
Thanks for sharing with us! 🙂
Thanks so much. I used a 75-300 zoom lens.
Wow Maralee. So many beautiful shots in one day. You outdid yourself. I have seen those birds like you photographed. I don’t know what they are. Sort of a water woodpecker. Will have to look in the bird book. Great job.
Well…I just saw the other comments when I posted mine. Evidently it’s a kingfisher. I really don’t remember seeing them on the east coast. Very regal.
Great shots. It’s to hard to choose a favorite. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you. It was worth standing out in the cold for 2 hours. 🙂
fantastic shots Maralee, I’m glad you went and stood there in the cold to shoot these… I think it was worth it!!
Thanks. It was worth it but I couldn’t feel my fingers when I finished they were so cold. I think once the sun went down it got done into the 20’s.
Number 2, 3 and 5 fascinated me again… you are amazing. Thanks and Love, nia
Girl, you are getting the moon now … some moonlight has come into you too. Fantastic photos.
But my favorite today is the last blue. The little birdie one is stunning too.
Your photographs are beautiful. Thank you for stopping by to view my blog on World Penguins Day.
