I had high hopes of getting photos of the super moon rising last night. We had a gorgeous, mostly cloudless day. But as the afternoon wore on, the clouds built up and my hopes diminished.

But there was a patch of clear sky on the eastern horizon that looked promising so I thought I’d try. Where the moon was supposed to come up was covered with clouds, but the clouds did provide for a beautiful and dramatic sunset.
I did get the moon when it was higher in the sky but there were high clouds behind the heavy clouds so I couldn’t get any definition in the moon.

Please don’t feel annoyed! Your photos are marvellous – especially the one with the moon hiding behind the clouds.
There are more supermoonie photographs to be seen in the press and in blogs than you can ever watch. And mostly they look a bit “naked”… 😉
Thanks. I had hoped the moon would rise a few degrees to the left of where I was, but I guess I can’t change the earth’s axis. 🙂 I was happy to get a beautiful sunset.
Hehehe – that’s what I call a stand point! Personally standing like a rock, but hoping for the earth to move out of her axis…
😀
That’s what i call style! 😉
Really nice photos Maralee. I didn’t try catching a glimpse of what everyone was referring to as the Super Moon…and this morning, I was kind of glad about that. Someone else reported it as just “round.” I was expecting some gigantic image. I really like your photo of the moon though. 🙂
Thank, Carol. You probably wouldn’t have noticed it unless you had a smaller moon next to it.
Still pretty though. I thought of you last night when gazing at the moon. No tripod meant no photography for me.
Thanks, Carissa. It’s hard to carry a tripod everywhere you go. I’m still looking for a good travel tripod.
I loved the photos.. even though the Moon didn’t play along… I got some good photos.. but they are so common with nothing near to make a good image of it.. so just deleted the lot…
Thanks, Rob. I’m going to have to research our area so I can find a very interesting foreground for when we have the next super moon. Having something interesting in the photo will make or break it.
we had cloud at 2000ft ha ha wasn’t seeing anything
That does sort of put a damper on taking moon photos.
We had even less chance here.
Sorry. It seems like a lot of people didn’t get to see it this time around.
Maybe not a super moon but Super Fields and Cloudy Skyes, I like them!
Thank you Jaime.
Even though the weather conditions weren’t ideal your shots are still fabulous! The last one is especially dramatic and haunting. . . 😀 x
Thank you very much.
I think that is a very mysterious and beautiful shot of the moon. Leave it to you to not have the weather cooperate and you still capture amazing images! 🙂
Thanks, Susan.
Super moon or not you produced some beautiful photos. I love the moon surrounded by clouds.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thank you, Francine.
WOW! Fascinated me. Thanks and Love, nia
Thank you, Nia.
I had the same problem. It was a bit frustrating, but finally I could get some shots. Your pics are wonderful!
The good thing is that there are super moons every year, so maybe next time the weather will cooperate.
