I thought we were done with fire season for the year. The temperatures have gotten cooler, there haven’t been any lightning storms . . . but I guess I was wrong. This fire developed very quickly today. At 11:00 this morning, there was no sign of a fire anywhere. By 1:00, it looked like the panorama photo – the fire was at 150 acres. By 6:30 tonight, the second photo shows the fire at 1500 acres. It’s still dry here and with the winds preceding a cold front fanning it, it’s been growing rapidly. Hopefully they will be able to get control of it quickly.

Fire so destructive, but in some case for veld management, so necessary… Here they set fire to the grass just for fun… then the fire department and all the farmers fight to put it out again…
This fire is a fair distance away from Bend (about 25 miles), but it’s just 6 miles from another town. They’ve done some evacuations. So far only 4 cars have been destroyed – no homes or humans.
Second the motion . . . hope they do put it out quickly, and with no loss of structures or life.
So far no loss of homes or lives. Only 4 cars. It started near a popular hiking and camping area so they had to evacuate a lot of people quickly.
I “liked” the post for the pictures, but really hope they get this fire put out quickly.
I’m hoping they do too. There is a cloud of smoke over the entire area this morning. It looks like a gloomy, cloudy day.
I hate these fires, although I know that they are also good for nature, but they’re scary and destructive. Beautiful photos, though! 🙂
Wow …. stunning photos – but sad for the nature and people !!! Terrible and it happens on so many places around the world .. every year.
Great photo, Maralee.
There have been many fires in Spain this summer as it´s been an exceptionally hot one. Sadly with loss of life, too.
