While I was visiting my family in Minnesota last week, I took daily walks through a small wooded area. They had a lot of snow this year and the snow melt created several small swampy areas. Every day I would see these birds flying around, darting down to the water and back up to the trees. I tried to photograph them in flight and had a couple of not quite successful attempts (they’re not in focus).

At the time, I didn’t know what kind of birds they were, but I have since found out that they are tree swallows.
It was also very cold in Minnesota for May, and these birds would huddle together in a tree.
Someday I will get a crisp, clear photos if birds in flight. It’s a work in progress right now.
Maralee

how lovely they are … new to me – we don’t have them neither … so beautiful in their blue “coat”.
Amazing catch, Maralee …. so wonderful and so many of them. Second last photo is my pick of this cute bunch – they are sitting so close and a bit a flying action too. Love this.
Have a great weekend now.
Thanks, Viveka. I was so happy when they decided to perch on the branch together.
How did you get them to behave and have their picture taken. They are so beautiful.
I wish there was a secret to getting them to sit still. I think they were just so cold they didn’t want to leave.
Cute little birdies. As if they wear fur or feather collars. Snuggly…
It was cold that day, so they needed their fur collars.
So beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful photographs with us
Thank you so much.

If you enjoy photographs of nature and little critters, then you should definitely be following this blog. Beautiful photographs, good for the soul.
And these beautiful tree swallows? Just what I needed today!
Thank you for reblogging.
Great shots of them all huddled!
Thanks. They were pretty cute.
Fantastic photos! The first one is especially wonderful with them all puffed up.
Thank you, Tricia.
Pretty good pictures of a flying swallow. They are hard to catch up with.
They are awfully quick little things, just darting back and forth in the blink of an eye. My camera trigger finger isn’t fast enough.
They are difficult to catch in flight. I did get pretty good cliff swallows captures, and a few tree swallow captures last year, but none I’m truly happy with.
I’ve never seen them congregate like that . . . Would have loved to see that.
It was so dang cold I think they were just trying to keep warm. 🙂

wowowowowowowow. So wonderful! I wish I had taken this picture!
WOnderful, stunning! I love the one with all them sitting on the branch. I reblogged it so I can look at it anytime I want to smile. Thank you!-amy
Tux, the huddled picture of the swallows is beautiful. There is nothing wrong with your pictures. You need to play with the contrast/clarity settings a little and just a tad bit increased saturation.
I love these shots. You obviously just kept shooting 🙂
I’ve never seen tree swallows in our neck of the woods, but thanks to you and Disperser I see how beautiful they are.
The birds on the wire are fantastic ! Love that !!
AWESOME PHOTO! Glad you were able to capture them all.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Such cute birds and a great series. Love the first two shots. 🙂
