I am totally enamored with the barred owl that has been hanging around the park.

I wanted to get a better photo of it so I went to the park again this afternoon to hunt him down. It didn’t take long to find him . . . and today he cooperated completely. He posed on a sign, flew around to pick up dinner, and made himself accessible to me to photograph him. After his last mouse, he flew into a tree to take a nap, but by that time I had my photos.

I tried to capture him in flight, but he was quick and I wasn’t as quick. So the flying photos are blurred. I’m going to try get more in flight photo another day.
Maralee

Always nice when the model cooperates.
It’s always a little easier when they pose for you. Now I have to get him to fly so I can practice my action shots.
I’m obsessed with him too! Amazing and fabulous pics!!!!
Thanks, so much. He is a pretty amazing bird.
Wonderful photos!
Thanks, Judy. Are you still in MN?
Yes. I am leaving on February 19th.
Your photos have captured his grandeur.
Thank you so much. They are such majestic creatures.
These are brilliant captures… now come to Africa and I’ll introduce you to all our wonderful bird life…
Thanks, Rob. I’d love to come to Africa. Who know . . . maybe I’ll win the lottery some day. 🙂
Excellent photos! I’m jealous.
Thank you. I feel so fortunate to have been able to capture this beautiful bird.
Maralee, you have become quite friendly with him … I think I told you that I had an owl as a pet .. when I was a kid. Truly a magnificent bird you have here … and my pick has to be the one where he fly away. Wonderful shots again.
You did tell me that you had an owl as a pet. How fun that must have been. I think they are wonderful birds.
So intelligent and beautiful.
Beautiful photos! I love owls.
Thank you Ruth. I’ve had a fascination with owls all my life but have rarely seen one in the wild. This was a real treat.
How wonderful that he’s still there and giving you the opportunity to capture his magnificence.
He’s (I’m not sure if its a he or she) been here for a couple of weeks now. Some think it may be nesting here. I saw and eagle about 1/2 mile from my home when I went walking today. When I got home I got my camera to go take photos of it, but it had already left the area.
You captured the beautiful eyes of this owl and they pull you in. They give proof to the old saying “A wise old Owl sat on an oak, The more he saw the less he spoke, The less he spoke the more he heard, Why aren’t we like that wise old bird?”
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Love that saying. If you look really closely into his eyes, you can see the reflection of the bridge I was on. I was processing some other owl photos yesterday and noticed that.
We were visiting Bend this weekend and had the pleasure of seeing him on Monday nestled in a tree not far from the walking bridge. I sort of felt bad that people were trying to get close to him. I hope people leave him some space so he sticks around. Pretty magical!
He’s been around for a couple of weeks now and he doesn’t seem to be too bothered by people. Hopefully no one will do anything stupid. I’m fortunate to have a telephoto lens on my camera so I can “get close” without getting close. The novelty will wear off soon I think. I’d like to see him stick around for a bit too.
