Barred Owl . . . II

Maralee_Park_130201_42472-EditI am totally enamored with the barred owl that has been hanging around the park.

You can see he blends in well with the tree

I wanted to get a better photo of it so I went to the park again this afternoon to hunt him down.  It didn’t take long to find him . . . and today he cooperated completely.  He posed on a sign, flew around to pick up dinner, and made himself accessible to me to photograph him.  After his last mouse, he flew into a tree to take a nap, but by that time I had my photos.

I tried to capture him in flight, but he was quick and I wasn’t as quick.  So the flying photos are blurred.  I’m going to try get more in flight photo another day.

  1. Maralee, you have become quite friendly with him … I think I told you that I had an owl as a pet .. when I was a kid. Truly a magnificent bird you have here … and my pick has to be the one where he fly away. Wonderful shots again.

    1. He’s (I’m not sure if its a he or she) been here for a couple of weeks now. Some think it may be nesting here. I saw and eagle about 1/2 mile from my home when I went walking today. When I got home I got my camera to go take photos of it, but it had already left the area.

  2. You captured the beautiful eyes of this owl and they pull you in. They give proof to the old saying “A wise old Owl sat on an oak, The more he saw the less he spoke, The less he spoke the more he heard, Why aren’t we like that wise old bird?”

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  3. We were visiting Bend this weekend and had the pleasure of seeing him on Monday nestled in a tree not far from the walking bridge. I sort of felt bad that people were trying to get close to him. I hope people leave him some space so he sticks around. Pretty magical!

    1. He’s been around for a couple of weeks now and he doesn’t seem to be too bothered by people. Hopefully no one will do anything stupid. I’m fortunate to have a telephoto lens on my camera so I can “get close” without getting close. The novelty will wear off soon I think. I’d like to see him stick around for a bit too.
