Day 261 – Smokey Sunset

Sun setting behind smoke bank
Sun setting behind smoke bank

As I’ve written previously, we have a lot of smoke in the air due to the wild-fire burning nearby.  The last few nights the sun has been a red ball in the sky.  I tried to get out to photograph it before it went behind the smoke bank but I was just able to catch the crescent of it.

The other photo was taken a little earlier as a silhouette with the sun behind the trees.  I don’t know what caused the circular sun flare but I thought it made it a little more interesting.  I may have been the circular polarizer I had on the lens.

  1. As Wendy … I also feels like the depth in the first photo – I think it’s the road that gives that emotion. Your photos are just getting more and more advanced.

  2. This are beautiful photos. Unfortunately they are coming at a great cost. The photos I took just a bit after sunset of Mt Hood on the way home Sunday also are enhanced by the smoke from the fearful fire. We also have smoke here in the valley from the fires up the gorge and drifting in from the east.
