The day started with a steady rain. The drive up the coast was uneventful. We stopped at a place called Humbug State Park to take some photos.

The entry to the walking trail was like walking into an enchanted forest. The canopy of moss-covered trees protected us from the rainfall. Except for a few drips, we didn’t get wet.

After spending about 45 minutes at Humbug, we continued north until we got to the Umpqua River lighthouse.

We made a short detour there but as lighthouses go, this was probably the most uninteresting lighthouses I’ve been too. But the drive to the lighthouse was beautiful . . . a fog shrouded winding road.

The drive between Florence and Eugene was one of the worst drives I’ve been on in my life. It rained so hard you could hardly see the road ahead. The clouds were black (trust me, they were black) and it was lightning like crazy. It suddenly ended as we neared Eugene. I was never to happy to get out of a rain storm
The rest of the trip was uneventful. We made a stop a Sahalie Falls which is one of my favorite waterfalls in Oregon. I’ve only been to a few, but this is one of my favorites.

Those clouds sure do look angry! 🙂
They were very angry. They were spitting fire spikes.
😀
I’m curious about the editing. Did you use photomatix on these? They certainly look great.
Thanks, David. I use a variety of programs. Sometimes I use Photomatix but not always. When I do use Photomatix, I usually take the final photo into Photoshop with one of the original photos to do some masking. I used it on all of these except the clouds. I am also a big fan of NIK software. I love their programs and they’re easy to use.
I thought they looked like they were run through photomatix. I love NIK too. I use their plugins along with Topaz Labs plugins on almost all of my landscapes.
I love the photo of the road with its mist and trees… actually I love all the shots…
Thank you very much. The fog and mist does give it a nice atmosphere.
Stunning …. it’s only the fairies missing in that forest, something magic – stunningly green. The road is my pick – somewhat uncertain about the picture – what’s around the bend … The dark clouds is a great photo too.
Thanks, Viveka. I kept looking for fairies to appear from behind the trees. 🙂
Beautiful, all of them, but I love the winding road in the light fog. I want to follow it!
Thank you. I love the atmosphere that fog brings to a scene.
Fascinated me your photographs… what a weather… but you captured amazing views… Especially the trees fascinated me dear Maralee, Thank you, love, nia
Thank you, Nia. You would have loved some of the trees on the coast. The wind blows so hard most of the time that the branches of the trees all lean inland naturally.
excellent all of these, well done. i also use NIK software.. : )
You have a great eye for pictures. I love the waterfall pic 🙂
