On day two of our coastal adventure we woke to heavy, thick fog. It was so foggy that we see the ocean and a heavy mist was soaking everything. Often, when it is foggy on the coast, it lifts as you go inland. So we took a drive up the Rogue River.

I’d read about a large, old myrtle tree that was growing upriver. After about ten miles the fog had lifted a bit and it had stopped misting.

We saw the sign indicating a turn to the old myrtle tree but the that was it. We turned off and took the road three different directions but never did find the myrtle tree. It didn’t help that I had no idea what a myrtle tree was supposed to look like. But it was very lush and green and we had plenty of subjects to photograph.
By the time we got back to the coast, the fog had lifted and it looked like it might clear a bit. We drove up the coast to the Cape Blanco Lighthouse and spent some time there.

A photo workshop group led by Andy Cook of Rocky Mountain Reflections was also there taking photos. I knew something was up when I saw a dozen photographers with tripods taking photos. I felt right at home.

From there we headed farther up the coast to Bandon Beach. Bandon is well-known for its ocean sea stacks. It was very windy but I did get down to the beach to take some photos.

That evening it looked like we might have a nice sunset so we drove a few miles south of Gold Beach to Pistol River where there are a number of sea stacks. It turned out to be a beautiful evening. The sunset wasn’t the most spectacular I’ve ever seen, but it was still beautiful. We spent about two hours there.

I’m a lover of lighthouses, so I love your lighthouse photos the best.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thanks. Everywhere I go, if there is a lighthouse nearby, I have to go to it. I grew up about a block from the harbor in our hometown and we had a wonderful lighthouse. It gave me great comfort when I could hear the foghorn blowing.
How do you get your photos to look like water colors?
I do some processing in NIK Software using a soft focus program. Then I take the soft focus off some of the areas. I just play around with it a bit.
Beautiful photos. The flowers were gorgeous. This reminds me that I need to take another trip up to the Oregon Coast soon.
Judy – if you ever make it up to the coast, let me know. Maybe we could meet. I haven’t seen you in ages.
superb work…!
Thank you, Joanna
Maralee, I so look forward to your posts because I know there is going to be something amazing to see. This series is one of your best. The lighthouse almost looks fake it looks so perfect and all the other images are incredible as well.
Thank you, Susan. I’ve loved lighthouses ever since I was a kid so I always seek them out when I’m traveling anywhere.
This lighthouse is amazing! If I’m ever in that area, I’m going to have to seek it out.
Very nice captures. I do like the lighthouse with the rope in the foreground, and Bandon Beach has a nice look to it.
Thanks, Emilio. I would like to have visited Bandon at sunset, but didn’t quite make it there for that.
How gorgeous! That 1st picture stole my heart, but they are all wow! 🙂
Thank you very much.
What beautiful photo shots… wonderful…
Thank you so much. But I have to give Mother Nature most of the credit. 🙂
Wonderful photos again … hard to chose this time – but I will go for the 00007 & lighthouse 00011 – because I love first of all lighthouses and then the blue grayish shape have always been talking to me. Love the light in the photo’s with those shades. Beautiful, Maralee.
Thanks, Viveka. I grew up near a lighthouse and they have always been special to me. I look for them wherever I go.
Stunning photos. The lighthouse photos are perfection. The southern Oregon coast just can’t be beat when it comes to beauty…everywhere. 😀
Beautiful! Joining the others who loved the lighthouse photos. The first one is my fave.
these sure are beautiful.. : )
Thank you, Dianne.
