We have a couple of wild fires burning both north and south of us, so we have had a layer of smoke surrounding us for several days.

These photos were taken from the top of Pilot Butte Monday night while I was there photographing the moon and the sunset.

Are these set fires or runaways.?? it don’t look good.. as if any fire does… I say runaways I think you call them wild fires…
Both of these are wildfires but both were human caused. Not intentionally but either by unattended campfire or discarded cigarette. It’s been extremely dry here and hot so the fire danger is very high.
Wildfires are so dangerous….we had one starting from our stupid neighbours. She was burning gerbil whatever and thought the fire was out. We were eating dinner and the fire engines are all coming down our driveway. They said another few feet, they couldn’t have stopped it because of the fir trees. The neighbours got a slap on the wrist. We lost some of our trees. Could have been the house. It is scary how one person can do so much damage because of their stupidity.
I agree. It’s especially stupid when every newscast, radio news is telling us how dry it is and how careful we must be. And someone throws a cigarette out their car window or doesn’t completely douse a campfire. I’m so glad they were able t get the fire near you out quickly.
People just don’t think… We were lucky that time. All the trucks lined up on the driveway, we are 1000 ft in off the main road. We looked out the window at everyone running around. The hoses were going. We couldn’t figure out what was happening at first because there is a bend in the driveway and it wasn’t visible. Then we could see the smoke. I feel for the folks out west who lost their homes.
Well, I can’t “like” . . .
Do you ever feel threatened by the fires?
I have never personally felt threatened. The closest fire we’ve had to our home was about 5 miles away. That doesn’t mean we couldn’t be threatened though. There is a massive empty field across the street from us that has a lot of sage and dried brush and if that every caught on fire, it could be a problem. However, since we are right on the edge of town and there is a fire station just a couple of miles away, I’m pretty sure they would be on top of it very quickly.
