I think the quail are one of the most interesting looking birds out there. They can’t fly very well but boy can they run. I’ve seen a few quail around our yard recently and I don’t think it will be long before we see them with a dozen or so babies running after them.

Cute! Is this the common quail species where you live? There are douzends of different quails around the world. Quails here around don’t look this wacky… 😉
Maybe I’m a quail too… I also do not fly
very well, but am able to run quite fast if I have to…
Your comment made me laugh. Thanks for that – I need a laugh every day.
One laugh a day is sure not enough! You have to meet more smart and funny people! 😉
Cute! They are very skittish for me, and they blend so well with the desert landscape that they are a challenge to photograph. I’m going to keep at it though. One of these days I will succeed. 🙂
These were right by my front door. They were eating leftovers of bird seed that had fallen from the bird feeder.
Aha! That’s the trick. I’ve been thinking of giving that a go, just to lure them in.
Very nicely done. Yesterday one of these guys flew into my window because there was a big hawk swooping in behind it.
I hope he survived both the window and the hawk.
That’s one of the best photos of quail that I have ever seen!
Thank you very much.
Brilliant shot … the first time I saw a quail as outside my friends home in Victoria, BC – beside the roads loas of them. I have peeled some quail eggs in my days, but I don’t understand why we did them for decoration for our fancy food plates on restaurants … never used them for my menus.
This is a GREAT shot. I didn’t know they can’t fly … learn something new every day.
They can fly a little . . . from the ground to a tree or to a fence. But I’ve never seen them in sustained flight. But they sure can run.
Okay, thanks for that information … yes, they can run.
Nice bird and a great shot!
Thank you cd.
A very fine portrait of a bird that I have often heard but never seen in the wild.
Thank you. I hadn’t seen this particular bird until I moved to Oregon.
You are so lucky ! I may never see a wild quail. They are so adorable.
When they have their babies, it is really cute. Mom and Dad and a dozen little chicks running through the yard is adorable. I’m hoping I can photograph that this spring when the chicks arrive.
Awesome capture! 🙂
Thank you so much.
This bird is so beautiful… our quail are quite dull…
Those are so cool. I’m jealous. We don’t have anything like that around here.
