I spy!!!
I spy!!

I took these photos of the barred owl when I went to take photos of him in flight.  He’s such a photogenic little fellow . . . it’s hard not to take photos of him.

  1. I would love to get me some owl photos. I’ve only seen one here (they are around), and it wan at dusk. Saw it perched on a pole in a place where I could not stop.

Maybe someday, but meantime I’ll enjoy these great shots.

  2. Thanks, Emilio. From what I understand, the barred owl is not necessarily nocturnal. They are often out in the daytime hunting, although several times I’ve seen this guy sleeping in a tree for most of the day. He seems most active late afternoon when he wants to eat and it has warmed up enough for the rodents to come out. We had two great horned owls across the street from my house on Monday. One was perched on a pole but it was too dark to get a photo of it. I think they’re such cool birds.

      1. Now that is what constitutes a good photo.. I’ve got one coming up with a Martial Eagle with a small antelope in its talons that it is eating … now that’s nature…

  3. Gorgeous photos, Maralee ….. it’s the same owl every time. Beautiful bird .. now I miss Oscar, my owl. *smile – that photo where it spread is wings are just FAB, but I love the “SPY” shot .. because he looks humble and a little bit shy. Owls are very shy birds.
