When I was at the park this weekend looking for the owl, I came across a row of trees where the bark was curling. I’m not sure what kind of tree it is, but the bark made for some very interesting textures.
We had birch trees growing up in Minnesota but they didn’t peel like this. I’m pretty sure this is in the birch family but am not sure what it is. Someone thought maybe a river birch.
That is some stunning photos …amazing, you have peeled yourself deep inside. Second last my pick – amazing colors. Can I ask for your vote again .. for my cute swan. – very cute – http://rodposse.com/2013/02/04/14th-challenger-qutie/.
Maralee, those photos are so good … and as you said it’s the different colors and shades that makes the photos so beautiful and interesting. You have made me look at trees differently now.
That looks so similar to our “Paper bark tree” so if you look that up I would say it is probably in the same family group… lovely photos…
Pretty cool. Looks like one can make fancy notepads from them. Probably impractical, but would be neat.

Beautiful! As always!
Thank you, Wyatt.

Thanks, Viveka. It was all the different colors of the peeling bark that intrigued me. You have my vote. 🙂

Is the paper bark tree in the birch family? I’m pretty sure this one is.
Ours is part of the Acacia family and has thorns…Acacia sieberiana…
Very nice photos! I can’t tell for sure, but the tree looks like a river birch. It’s certainly in the birch family.
I agree its in the birch tree family. I was trying to look it up and river birch comes closest to what this looks like.
I love the colors. So delicate!
Thanks, Carissa.
