I’ve always been fascinated by old buildings. Old houses, old barns, old outhouses . . . I always try to imagine the people who once lived in those houses and what their lives must have been like.
This old house is on the highway between Bend and Portland if you go over Mount Hood. This photo was taken several years ago and has since then become much more derelict. From this property, on a clear day, you can see a beautiful view of the mountains.
I experimented a little in NIK Silver Efex. I thought this photo was perfect for a black and white photo but I didn’t like the straight black and white so used their Antique Plate and adjusted it a little.

Fantastic, I love this.
I love the B&W. it really brings out the beautiful details in the clouds.
Thank you, Edith.
Thank you so much, Gary.
Maralee it does look better in the B&W effect.. just seems to give it a bit more mystery and age.. lovely..
Thanks, Rob. I think a lot of the old buildings do better in black and white. It adds to the character.
Like the texture in those photos.. and the age of the house. You have capture it beautifully … I like the photo with the intense blue sky.
Thank you, Viveka. I’m hoping to get out and search for more old buildings when the roads are a little better for driving.
I almost want to live there, Maralee. 🙂
It’s a beautiful area.
This old house is gorgeous. I wish I could find something similar. There is something so haunting about it alone in the countryside with what memories inside. A truly lovely photo – both in color and in the black and white antiqued version – worth framing. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much. There is an area a couple of hours away from where I live that there are a lot of old farmsteads that I’m hoping to get to this spring and summer to photograph.
Where’s Dorothy?
Great old house 🙂
I hadn’t thought about that but it does looks like it could be Dorothy’s house.
Very nice! That house has so much character. I also love old houses, esp the thought that that house was someones vision long ago. Life…. 🙂
Thank you so much. I love old buildings with character. I also love walking through graveyards and wondering what the lives of the people there were like. Thank you for stopping by my blog.
