Instead of posting a bunch of photos, I chose to post a short video I made after our dog, Nicky, passed away. He was a part of our lives for 16 years and a faithful friend and companion.
When our cat, Pia, came into our lives, they became best of friends. They were inseparable. They ate together, slept together, and just enjoyed each other’s company. I really believe they loved each other as much as we loved them.
I apologize for the quality of this video. The original was lost when my computer crashed a few years ago and I only had this copy which had been sized-down for email.
The music is by Hawaiian artist extraordinaire, Keali’i Reichel.
I hope you enjoy.

That was wonderful. I’m crying. I love that song, as well. It is written by Karla Bonoff.
Thanks, Carissa. When I made the video, it was very cathartic for me. I went for a long time after Nicky passed before I could even look at photos of him. But in doing this project, it brought back all the joy we had. Pia is still with us . . . 14 years old and queen of the house.
Very nice tribute.
Thanks, Emilio. He was a very special dog.
He’s such a cute fellow and I fully comprehend the bond and love between human and animal – it is so horribly sad to lose them from our lives.
Thanks, Lynne. He was very special. He was the first pet I ever had so I think it was extra hard on me when we lost him. But he had a wonderful life.
There is no love like that of a dog for its owner… no matter how you feel what mood you’re in or if you shout and cry… the dog always loves you… nothing like a dog;s love… loved this post…
Thanks, Rob. He always knew when something was wrong and would come up to me and start licking. He was always able to make me feel better.
Thank you for sharing this very loving tribute to Nicky. Love never forgets. Once given and received it stays in our hearts forever.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thanks, Francine. He will always be in my heart.
A very touching tribute
Thank you very much.
A lovely video and such a sweet dog. Thanks for sharing this with us. Our pets really do become such an important part of our lives. I would imagine Pia missed Nicky as much as you did judging by how close they were.
After we lost Nicky, we got another cat for company with Pia (wrong move). They hated each other from day one. They still hiss at each other whenever they pass each other. And unbeknownst to us, the cat we adopted was pregnant and a week later had kittens. So now we have a house full of cats. 🙂
Aww, what a moving tribute to your Nicky!
Thank you, Madhu.
You nuzzled my heart. And THX for introducing me to this extraordinary voice. Toni
Thank you, Toni. I was introduced (musically) to Keali’i Riechel when I lived in Hawaii. I’ve always loved his music.
Absolute adorable. Such a beautiful … tribute … about 2 friends.
Thank you, Viveka.
oh I feel your pain (and joy). We lost one o our dogs in June also 16. A good life.
They become such an integral part of our lives. It’s hard to see them leave us but I know Nicky had a wonderful life and our lives are richer for him being a part of it.
Reminds me of our dog, Mocha,…and the Hawaiian music takes me back to my island home, Maui.
I lived on Oahu for 25 years and fell in love with the Hawaiian music.
Lovely tribute 🙂
Thanks, Inga. He was a special little dog.
