Day 192 – Another Hospital Visit

Today was another one of those days that you just want to get over with.  About ten days ago, I mentioned that I had to take my husband to the hospital to have cardioversion for A-flutter.  Since his A-fib seems to always end in A-flutter which always ends in cardioversion, the doctor recommended an ablation to short-circuit the flutter.  What that means is they thread three wires through his groin into his heart and find the area causing the flutter and short-circuit it.  Sounds scary, huh?  But from what I understand, it’s fairly common.  So, today was the day.

It was a gorgeous morning.  As we were getting ready to leave at 6:00 a.m. to go to the hospital, the sun was just starting to come up.  I ran across the street to get some of the beautiful colors of the morning.  I turned around and the sun was coming up and the sky was a beautiful shade of red.  What a nice way to start the day.

At the hospital it was a lot of waiting.  The room where I was waiting had a small aquarium so I attempted to take some photos with my iPhone.  I couldn’t get the fish to stop and every time I went close to the aquarium they hid.  I got this one something or other and even though it’s a bit out of focus, it was the best shot I could get.

The procedure went very well, but he had to stay in a prone position for four hours to make sure there was no bleeding in the groin area where the wires were inserted.  We were able to go home later in the afternoon and all is well.  It was an emotionally exhausting day though.

We have been having some pop-up thunderstorms the past few night which results in some gorgeous cloud formations.  Shen the sun hits those big, white thunderheads, it is beautiful.

  1. I am glad everything went well for you and your husband. You had your sign this morning with the beautiful sky greeting you before you left for the hospital. All is well with you guys. Will keep you covered in prayer.

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  2. Maralee … an early regard from Seattle – time to departure with Amtrak soon .. a bit early so I thought I will log on and say hello. Glad that everything is okay with you both and that the summer is where you are too. Love the photo with the sky on fire. In Vancouver I have free wifi on my room so I will do a couple of posts. Lots of sunshine and feeling good.

  3. Lovely photos, Maralee. Sometimes it’s hard to do this when stressed with other pressures. Then again, for me, photography helps me to get out of my head a lot. I assume it does for you as well.

So glad your husband is doing well. I had an ablation two and a half years ago. It opened the door to more issues, but my tachycardia has pretty much been resolved. If you want to read about my “stuff” here is my post-procedure post at my other blog: http://bluelyon.wordpress.com/2009/11/10/healing-heart/

There is a whole series of posts about my cardiac adventures there.

    1. I ready your post. My husband’s ablation doesn’t sound nearly as serious and traumatic. He’s doing fine. I remember my experience in the cath-lab when I had my heart attack almost 3 years ago and they ran into problems when they went in to place the three stents. I think I suffered from PTSD for a couple of years. I had huge anxiety, but I found that getting behind the camera and losing myself in taking photos was about the only time I didn’t think about it. It’s really therapy for me. Thanks for sharing your story.

  4. Good luck with everything for your husband dear Maralee, I am glad the day went well for you both. You are in my prayers and thoughts too. Love, nia
