Portland, Oregon is known as the “City of Roses.” Why, you may ask? There are a few possible reasons, and the website “Stumped in Stump Town” gives them. Personally, I think it’s just because they grow so well over there.

So, before leaving the city, we made a short stop at The International Rose Test Garden. My only disappointment was that we were there about a month too early. There were only a handful of roses in bloom right now. We were told that the best time to visit is beginning in mid-June. However, the setting is still beautiful and I can imagine how beautiful it will be in another month or so.
Besides the roses, the garden has some amazing rhododendron’s. We have some puny rhododendrons in Central Oregon, but the one’s growing in Portland are spectacular.

Fascinated me your flower photographs dear Maralee but especially the last one… Wonderful… Thank you dear, with my love, nia
Thank you, Nia.
Absolut stunning … love the old bench and the massive rhododendron, what a fantastic photo. Amazed that the roses are blooming already, maybe the climate is a bit warmer over in Oregon.
Thanks, Viveka. It’s still a little early for the roses. There were only a few in bloom. They said mid-June is the best time to see the roses in bloom.
Absolutely beautiful photos!
Thank you, Judy.
Oh how I miss the “rhodies” of Portland!
It’s amazing how monstrous they are. Ours on this side of the mountain are puny in comparison. And they were everywhere.
Great Photos, love them.
Thank you very much.
How beautiful. 🙂
