Black Crowned Night Heron

After watching the dancing grebes, we headed to northern California to the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge.  But before we left, we had a picnic lunch and it was there that I saw my first Black Crowned Night Heron. These birds can be found just about anywhere, but this was the first I’d seen one.

This one caught my eye as it flew to a tree branch on the edge of the water. It stayed long enough for me to get a few photos of it before it flew off.
