After watching the dancing grebes, we headed to northern California to the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge. But before we left, we had a picnic lunch and it was there that I saw my first Black Crowned Night Heron. These birds can be found just about anywhere, but this was the first I’d seen one.

This one caught my eye as it flew to a tree branch on the edge of the water. It stayed long enough for me to get a few photos of it before it flew off.
Interesting maybe collecting things for its nest. Beautiful photos
Thank you.
Beautiful clean lines on this striking bird
It is a very beautiful bird.
Not seen in the UK! I was thrilled to see one – just one – in Botswana two months ago.
They are beautiful birds.
Very unusual to see it out-and-about in broad daylight, and you got some terrific shots of it!
We actually saw several out in the daylight. I guess we were very fortunate.
