A Year of Wildlife – Day 9 – Common Goldeneye

Common Goldeneye
Common Goldeneye

The common goldeneye is a mallard-sized duck . A breeding male has a black head and a distinct white circle at the base of its bill.  It also has very distinctive yellow eyes. The females have a gray body and a chocolate-brown head . . . and yellow eyes.

I came across this one while seeking out my favorite heron.
