These aren’t very good photos, but I had to post them. We had a couple of families of quail in our yard yesterday and they had two teeny tiny chicks with them.

Usually when I see quail families there are dozens of chicks. I don’t know if the stray cats in the area got to some of the chicks or if there were only two. But they were so darned cute.

I didn’t want to disturb them so I took the photos through a screen window, thus the poor quality.

I hear them be good eating . . . Just kidding; they are hard too hard to catch; they run like the dickens. And talk about maneuverability! I hear one of them was Vice President way back when.
Seriously, nice encounter.
If they’re related to the partridge, they are good eating. My dad used to hunt partridge in Minnesota when we were kids. I don’t think I could kill one of these cute guys. Maybe the one standing guard is our former Vice President . . . he was put out to pasture, wasn’t he?
Those chicks are so very cute. I’m glad you were able to get some photos 🙂 Annie
Thank you. It would have been better if I’d had a window to shoot through instead of a screen. But I didn’t want to startle them by trying to go outside. Plus they’re so quick I probably wouldn’t have gotten any shots.
I love quail and think your pics are good. I can’t ever seem to find them around here where I’m fast enough to get the photo. A lot of the chicks get eaten by road runners. So sad. I was horrified when I first moved to the desert and learned that road runners were meat-eaters.
Thanks Gina. I don’t like to think of the little babies being eaten by other predators. But its the way of the wild and happens all the time.
They are adorable alright! I’d like to have a couple of quails in the hen house for eggs. I love their little eggs. Is that horrible to say in the same post as those cute little chicks 😦 … cheers… wendy
As long as you don’t eat them when their babies. 🙂 I guess it wouldn’t be any different than us eating chicken eggs.
You definitely need to mow the lawn.
I had good intentions of mowing the lawn yesterday but we had a series of thunderstorms and heavy rain come through so I didn’t. Now the grass is going to get even higher.
We have a whole bunch of quail that live in the brush by our pond. Catching them to photograph is well-nigh to impossible. Good job!
I think these quail live in one of the many bushes we have. They don’t come out into the yard very often though. Even though they don’t fly very well, they sure are fast on their feet.
