Three Score Years Ago

Maralee_Park_130701_50376“You aren’t really 60. Just 21 with 39 years experience!”

Maralee_Park_130710_50610On my Birthday:

“Three scores is 60 years ago,”
It is poetic as the shadows grow.
I selfishly holds memories a bliss
while yearning mom’s forgotten kiss.

While whispering the numbers to myself,
Longing the days of dolls and elves.
My hair has lightened, but heart still with song,
avoiding to think what can go wrong.

My steps are short, but back still strong,
Not trade my life, for here I belong.
Promises were made as a bride,
with giggles and fun still on the side.

With camera on ready, by my side
Memories to share at fireside.
Pages of memories filled with great times,
But help me folks, I’m now out of rhymes.

Life needs to be lived and not bankrolled,
It is not a rehearsal, so I’m told,
I embrace the future not with boredom, but joy,
So shout three scores as if a newsboy.

  1. Happy birthday Maralee!
Let your photographs speak for your age and nobody will recognize that you might get older. People only will wonder how experienced and creative you are 😉

  2. Fast approaching for me as well . . . although It could be argued we’ve been in our 60th year of life since last birthday.

Happy anniversary of your birth day.

  3. I wished you a happy on FB… but this is just made it worth a slightly longer wish…
    Congratulations!
You have been traveling around the sun for 60 years now!
Here’s to more trips and a longer and fruitful journey through life.
    Happy 60th birthday!
Look back on your life and see if you have made a change in our world or not. If you haven’t, you still have lots of time to do so. Continue and value your precious life!
    Happy birthday one more time…

  4. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!!!

(So, lessee . . . this would mean you would have been a senior when I was a freshman – remember when that was a big deal?)

    1. Thanks, Carissa. I remember when I was a freshman and I thought the seniors were so old and mature. Same when I went to college. Now I know so much better . . . they’re still just kids with so much life experience ahead of them.
