Our Summer Visitors

Maralee_Park_130526_48222_1_0We have a fairly large population of deer that summer in our neighborhood.  Maralee_Park_130526_48225_4_3-EditOften times some of them will come and eat and siesta in our back yard during the day.  Yesterday was one of those days.  We had two fairly large female deer and two young deer – one a young buck.

Maralee_Park_130526_48091-Edit Maralee_Park_130525_48004-EditThey left early in the afternoon so I took that opportunity to mow the lawn.  I was nearing the end of my hour-long task when I came around the corner and stood face to face with the four deer.  I shut down the mower, and walked slowly around the back of the house.  I didn’t want to freak them out.

    1. I wish I could teach them that. Someone told me that deer don’t like marigolds so I planted a bunch. Someone didn’t give my deer the memo . . . I watched one of them eat several of them right in front of me.

    1. I don’t know for sure what happened to the little fawn last year. He came back to our yard with his mother and another fawn several times during the summer and he seemed to be getting along okay. I keep wondering if that is one of the deer that has been coming to our yard this summer. These were two does and two yearlings. But there is no way to be sure. I want to believe that it was okay.

I'd love to hear from you
