Yellowstone National Park is one of the most interesting and unique places I’ve been. I was only there for two days and was amazed at the diversity in wildlife and landscape. These were just a few of the animals that we saw while we were there.
The shot of the raven was taken from sitting inside our car.
The bird landed on our windshield and just sat there for several minutes. It was the biggest darned raven I’ve ever seen.
The grizzly bear was a long ways away.
I had borrowed a 400mm lens for this trip and even with that I still had to crop quite a bit in order to see it.
I have a ton of other photos that I will post another day, or two, or three . . .

I agree . . . Yellowstone is my favorite park (to date; there are many I have not seen).
Very nice shots. Next time I go I plan to rent the 600mm lens. It will run me $500, but it’s a $10K lens, and with the 1.5 multiplier, it’s 900mm equivalent.
Or maybe the 400 f/2.8 might be enough (for half the rental price). It’s a $9K lens.
Well now we all know one of the things you will purchase if you hit the lottery! 🙂 It hurts like He$# when I spend 1k on a lens! There is another reason why your husband may never purchased that lens for you..He quite possibly would not see you again :-). You would probably spend weeks at a time in the woods shooting everything that you could..
My husband has never seen me . . . frankly, I don’t think he knows I exist.
I recently read when Nikon has an 800mm prime lens now. It’s only $19,000. Maybe I can talk my husband into getting it for me for my birthday. Ha!!!
You can always do what I heard many women do . . . buy it, and when he asks “What’s this?” you answer, “Oh, that ole thing; I’ve had that for a while.”
Apparently, it works for clothes. Maybe it will work for camera lenses, as well.
Lovely photos Maralee… 800mm for only $19 000 I’m sure your husband will get that for you… hold on let me just convert that into rand R 171 000 Yes I’d buy that for my wife… there is no chance… I can buy 28 of my cameras for that price..
I know. But I can always dream. 🙂
That last photo is magic !!! Amazing how you just run into all those amazing wild animals .. and how good your shots – I would be scared if I saw a bear. Even the raven look majestic! Same serious lens you and Bulldog are talking about.
Thanks, Viveka. Yellowstone National Park is really a fascinating place. I’ll be posting more photos before too long. I’d like to go back and spend much more time there.
I have seen TV programs about Yellowstone – you have some serious National Parks over there – but it think Yellowstone is the most famous after Grand Canyon.
There are a lot of beautiful national parks. There are a couple that I’d really like to get to – Yosemite National Park in California and Glacier National Park in Montana. I’ve been to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Zion, and Bryce.
We have too, but not so famous as yours and over here all land belongs to the people – nobody can stop you from walking in all forests or beaches. We are the only country in the world that has that law. Think I have to do a post about it.
Montana I heard about too.
Yellowstone is a magical place! I’ve been there twice, for a week each time, and that isn’t enough time to even scratch the surface of what’s there is to see there! Thank you for posting those wonderful photos to refresh my memory!
It’s one of those places that you will always find something new and interesting. I hope to go back and spend more time there.
I just realized you were not subscribed to the blog when I posted about my first trip to Yellowstone.
Again, feel free to erase this if you rather not have the links here, but, in case you are interested:

Thanks for sharing those posts. Fabulous photos. I so badly want to go back and spend more time there. I hope you don’t mind if I reference them in my blog today. I’m posting a few shots from Mammoth Hot Springs from when I was there.
Feel free . . . if past experience is any indication most people will ignore them.
I think most people use readers to scan posts, and don’t actually visit, so they usually don’t see the links.
Glad you liked them.
Unique place indeed. And the photos are excellent. Must be exciting to be there.
Thanks, Bente. It is a wonderful park. I want to go back and spend more time there.
Amazing series! I think I must go to Yellowstone one day. With the proper camera equipment. 🙂
Thanks, Inga. If you ever get to that part of the world, you must visit it.
Another place on my bucket list! Wonderful photos, Maralee!
It’s a photographer’s dream place. I’d like to go in the winter some time but only one entrance is open and I think you almost have to travel by snowmobile.
I too would like to get in there in the winter. Unless they changed it, only the Northern entrance is open in the winter.
They do have arranged excursions in there, but I don’t know if they specifically have photography themed ones, so it might be difficult to travel in groups that just want to sightsee when you want to sit in one place and photograph something.
BUT . . . it’s not only by snowmobile . . . you could snowshoe or cross-country ski in there.
For me it would probably be staying at a lodge, and heading out in a very small radius on foot, combined with whatever excursions they plan.
hmmm . . . might have to plan that soon (within the next few years).
Sorry I am commenting so much, but your photos are amazing. Love all these, but the raven is extra cool.
