We have had a series of thunderstorms passing through the area the last few days. They can make for some dramatic skies at sunset. Both of these photos were taken with my little point and shoot camera. I usually carry that with me everywhere when I’m not able to take my larger and heavier Nikon. It’s hard to get proper lighting with the point and shoot, so the second photos is quite blown out – bit I still liked the effect.

Wow I think the second photo is magnificent.. I love the effect of the rays.. you say its “blown out” its an effect I would attemp to get again and again.. Love it..
Thanks, John. I know they keep saying we should get detail in the whites, but it was really bright and I don’t think I could have gotten any detail in that section if I tried. It was the rays that really caught my eye.
My Dear, I never listen to what they say we should have .. if it’s pleasing to my eye who is to say its wrong? I admire your wish to get it perfect, but to me that photo is perfect and depicts a glorious sky with an unusual and delightful composition.. I love it..
Thanks, John. 🙂
OH MY! Me too. That second shot is beautiful.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thank you, Francine. The rays coming from the sun was what really caught my eye.

That second shot is a winner. Forget blown out – you got the magic in this one!
Thanks, Lois. I’m happy with it. I don’t think there was any detail in the sunny are to get anyway, so it can’t help but being blown out.
They came our way too… We had a real sort of electrical storm with thunder. The power was out about 6 hours. Incredible but quite odd for our part of the country. This is where I took my 200 pics- all of lightening… except I kept missing it… tripod and all.
Lightening is hard to capture because it is so quick. The only time I’ve ever been able to do it is when its quite dark outside and I can keep my shutter open for a period of time. Even then, its difficult.
