I’m still practicing with my macro lens and tonight I worked on some red Gerbera Daisies. I tried using different apertures, shutter speeds, and distances from the subject. One thing I have learned is that the macro lens has a very shallow depth of field, even with a small aperture.

I wanted to use natural light so I took these on our front porch. It was raining/snowing all day today so there was a nice, soft lighting. We’re supposed to have rain and/or snow again tomorrow and I have more flowers to shoot so I’ll get more practice in.

I love this lens, gives a new perspective to things we see everyday with our own eyes yet without the detail, wonderful.
I’m really liking the lens. We have a holiday weekend so I’m hoping to get out and take more shots.
I’m lovin’ your macro lens!! Love these images. 🙂
Thanks. I’m liking it too. Have a wonderful weekend.
Beautiful images, Maralee. 🙂
Thank you, Mike.
So you got some snow .. after all – your photos are wonderful – my pick is the top one – over here an other summers day.
Some of the higher areas got some snow – we didn’t get any at my house. But we got lots and lots of rain. And cold. Only 36 degrees F.
Beautiful! Love gerberas and these photos are really lovely.
Thank you, Inga.
Usually f/18 and up gets me decent DOF. Definitively f/22, although the exposure gets longer, so you need something which will not move, and to use a tripod.
And yes, it’s fun to experiment.
I definitely have to use a tripod. Most of these were less than 1/30 sec. I set the timer to help prevent camera shake. I have a remote that I should be using more.
A tripod is essential for me when shooting macro . . . I can’t hold the camera steady enough hand-held to guarantee the shallow area of focus will be where I want it to be.
Wonderful shots, especially I loved their compositions of these flowers… Thank you dear, Love, nia
Thank you so much, Nia.
love your macro shots…must be so much fun to play around with it 😀
It’s fun to play around with the new lens. Now I just need a new camera body so I can have a camera for each lens. Then I won’t have to switch them out. Wishful thinking. 🙂
Love the angles you shot these beautiful images.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thank you very much. I liked the colors and textures of the back sides of the flowers.
Lovely! I think I mentioned before, that Gerberas are my absolute favourite flowers. You get a beautiful, soft salmon pink one – gorgeous… 🙂
Thank you very much. I think Gerberas are beautiful, too.
