I know I’ll be dating myself with this post, but when I learned to type, I started on a manual typewriter. You know . . . the ones where you had to put about 10 pounds of pressure on a key in order to get it to strike the ribbon.

We developed strong, fast fingers using those machines. My neighbor has one of those old typewriters and it brought back some OLD memories.

Yes it certainly dates me as well, but I love the warm memories of remembering to hit the return lever in time, mine had lost is reminder bell.
I wonder if having grown up using this machine make me an antique? Just wondering.
Grrrrrrrts. Ping! Yip, I remember too… 🙂
Those were the days. 🙂
Great shots! Love the first one because of the perspective and the b&w treatment.
Thanks, Inga.
Brings back memories. Great shots.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thanks. I was transported back in time for a few moments.
Where is mine…. You inspired me dear Maralee, wonderful photographs. Thank you, with my love, nia
Thank you, Nia.
Stunning … when I went my evening school I had to write on this type – with the “pling” and everything – then the electric came … http://youtu.be/g2LJ1i7222c – give you little music here … I had 90 wpm at my best, amazing that we have gone from this machine to touch screen through my 63 years. The middle photo my pick today.
Thanks, Viveka. It brought back some old memories of long ago.
I’m a journalist and when I started, not only did we use manual typewriters, but our stories were typed on three-copy carbon paper. Try correcting that!
I remember those days, too. We’ve come so far. 🙂
Tried such things too, long time ago. Great photos.
They sort of make me feel old. 🙂
I still have the typewriter I received as present when I was in the primary school…oh well, this dates me as well….

I wish I had kept mine. For nostalgic reasons.
Yep, my first one was just like that one. I typed my 8th grade report on it. Remember onion skin paper?
Seriously, this is bringing back memories of white out, setting tabs and margins, tangled keys, etc. 🙂 I like number 2 as well.
Oh, yes. I remember those days. I don’t know if I could remember how to set the tabs and margins anymore. We’ve become spoiled.
My first novel was written on a Remington Rand typewriter, my current novel on a Dell laptop. Neither has been published so I don’t see much progress!
Awesome. I remember when I was about 7 and I went to a flee market and picked up an old type writer. My parents had to find ink as well as have a few keys repaired because I told them that I was going to write a book. Your photograph brought back a few good memories 🙂
I used to have one of those old typewriters, but I have no idea whatever happened to it. It does bring back a lot of memories.
I actually have my typewriting diploma… so I guess that makes me pretty old too haha.
great shots Maralee! As I told my daughters about a typewriter they didn’t even knew what it was because they are real children of the digital time…laptop iPod mobile phone…
