As I was driving home from work tonight, I was stumped about what to photograph today.  I’d had a busy day at work, didn’t get a chance to get out of the office, and didn’t have a clue.  As I was driving into my driveway, a flock of cedar wax wings flew overhead and landed in a tree in our yard.  I grabbed my camera to get a few shots before they flew off.  I didn’t take the time to get my tripod out because I was afraid they would leave before I got everything set up.  Close up they’re a little fuzzy, but from afar they look pretty clear.

  1. I too really enjoy seeing the waxwings around. I’m not much of a birder but I do love the spice they add to life – what would spring be without their beautiful songs?

  2. These are so sweet. I think everyday provides us an opportunity to see something picture worthy. Maybe sometimes we just don’t recognize it. Hey Maralee- I nominated you for the Kreativ Blogger Award. Not sure if you got the message. Please do with it what you wish but just wanted to make sure you knew how much I enjoy your photos. wendy

      1. Oh don’t be sorry at all. I think these awards are great and they do provide a chance for recognition and new traffic… but they also take a lot of time to respond to and I don’t think you or anybody should feel obligated. Just enough to know you saw it. cheers!

  3. The lonely one .. is my favorite – stunningly beautiful birds and so many of them. Spring is with you now. We had it so windy and cold for a couple days, even if the sun is bright.

      1. Isn’t that late … ???? We are 4 weeks ahead … not good neither. So cold in the wind today – poor brides on their eggs.

  4. It’s not really that late for this area. We’re in the high desert and spring always comes late here. We don’t even do any new planting until late May because there’s always the possibility (and probability) of more frost. Our growing season is too short for many plants.

  5. Maralee, those are such beautiful photos of gorgeous Cedar Waxwings. The lighting is perfect. We used to get them by the flock at our house. They ate the holly berries from the holly tress that grew at the back of our garage. There were holly farms everywhere in our area. Our holly trees went down in an ice storm. The back side of the trees were protected from the ice build up by the overhang from the roof. They simply got too heavy on one side and tipped out of the ground, the roots pulled up. At 20′ tall we had to way to put them back. The holly orchards fell to housing developments and are a thing of the past. The Cedar Waxwings went the way of the holly. So seeing your photos was a real treat today.

  6. They are so cute! I’ve also been stumped lately…my problem is that I don’t know what to post on my blog! 😦 I’m sure as soon as I’ve taken a few new pictures again, I’ll know what to write about. 🙂

    1. Thanks. Some days I just seem to run out of time and I’m wracking my brain. I think that’s why I take so many flower photos. They’re easily available. Now that spring and summer are upon us, I should have more time outdoors to take photographs.

I'd love to hear from you
