Today was one of those days that are perfect for working in the garden. Not too cold, not too hot . . . just right. So it was time to go out and clean out some of the garden beds. While cutting back some old growth from last year, some ladybugs crawled out. I ran back to get my camera to take some photos. I think ladybugs are just about the coolest bugs. I don’t have a macro lens and using my zoom doesn’t always come out as sharp as I’d like, but they came out okay.

The grape hyacinths are starting to grow and I found this little red succulent underneath some dead plants I was cleaning out.

I LOVE Ladybugs! And right up to the point where I read “I don’t have a macro lens..” I was wondering if you did! I’ve been considering getting one because of the amazing images I see but you got some great images. Thanks!
Thanks so much. I’m not a fan of most bugs, but I do like ladybugs. I’m saving to get a good macro lens but it may be a while :-). Until then, my zoom will have to do.
I’ve got a thing for ladybugs too. Haven’t seen any around our neck of the woods yet, but it’s just a matter of time.
Great photos! I love the last one!
I was really surprised to see them after the cold and snow we’ve been having. This weekend was the first “warm” weekend we’ve had in a while. They were hiding under some overgrown plants and emerged when I was cutting the plants back.
Awesome ladybugs and photos. The weather here was perfect today. Sunny and warm enough that we had the egg hunt outside about 6:30. Lasted until it was getting dark and it was still comfortable without coats!!
I was nice to finally have some spring weather. It was just perfect for working in the garden. I hope it lasts for a while.
What is the furry plant the first lady is on?
I think it’s a lambs ear.
I don’t have a macro lens too but if you have patience you can take some lovely photos.
You have beautiful macro photos on your blog. What lens do you use? Do you use a tripod? It’s a learning experience for me.
Today I was walking on a street when I remembered that I wrote “I don’t have a macro lens too” and I think is a grammatical mistake. Perhaps I should say “I don’t have a macro lens neither I”. I’m sorry, my English is bad…
About my photos… Well, I can’t afford a Dslr so I have to be patient, to try new ways taking photographs because my focus isn’t so great (but a bit it is, I’m kidding:D).
I use a Nikon L21, I don’t have lens as a Dslr has. It’s a bit hard but I try my best.
Tripod. I have a small one (from 23 cm to about 45 cm long). You can see it on my blog / About / My gear. But almost all the time I don’t use it, I hold the camera with my hand.
Sometimes I use it because so I can hold camera much better for new perspectives.
I try to be carreful to light, sometimes I use some shadows(like my hand shadow), and exposure compesantion is one of my favourite settings.
So, even if you don’t have a expensive camera, even if you don’t live an exotic country, you can take amazing photos, you need patience.
I’m just an amateur but if you would like to ask how I did some photos, feel free to contact me.
Have a nice day! 🙂
You captured so beautiful photographs… Ladybug is amazing, but the others too… Thank you dear Tuxedo, with my love, nia
Ladybirds – my favorite bug .. comes from childhood, I think .. isn’t they a bit early ????!! Fare to early. Makes me always so happy to see Ladybirds or bugs .. First one is the one for me.
The were deep down in some old growth plants that I was cutting away and they came out when I was cutting. They may have been keeping warm down there.
The lady bug is gorgeous.
Thank you very much.
