Malachite Kingfisher

This was another time when I was amazed that our driver/guide spotted this Malachite Kingfisher. It was in a gully, in the shadow, and behind us as we drove past it. It took a long time to spot it even after he tried to point it out to me. This was taken with a 400mm lens and heavily cropped.

The Malachite Kingfisher is a river kingfisher and is widely distributed in Africa south of the Sahara. It is a beautiful bird and this one was kind enough to stay in place for me to see it and then get a few photos of it.

This was what we saw from a distance using a 400mm lens
The wind was blowing a little bit.
