The lilac-breasted roller is the national bird of Kenya and is a common bird on the African savannah. Besides Kenya, it is quite common in Zimbabwe, Botswana, northeastern South Africa, and much of Namibia, excluding the Namib Desert. It is very colorful and actually has 8 different colors – green, white, black, yellow, turquoise, dark blue, reddish brown, and lilac. They are not afraid of humans so you can get fairly close without it flying off.
That’s one heck of a beautiful bird.
