Giraffe and Oxpecker

After watching our first wildebeest crossing, we ventured inland and almost immediately came across this beautiful giraffe. Hitching a ride on the giraffe’s neck were a couple of oxpeckers. These pretty little birds feed on ticks and other parasites on larger African animals. It’s a win-win . . . the oxpecker gets to eat and the animals get cleaner, healthier skin.

  1. Just curious . . . what was your experience with bugs while there?

I presume no birds came to help out; did you have/wear repellant or other anti-bugs/tics measures?

I'd love to hear from you
