The main reason I wanted to visit the Sherburne National Wildlife Preserve in Minnesota was to see the sandhill cranes. I have never seen one before. They proved to be quite elusive the day we were there. They blend in with the tall grasses and are difficult to spot. I only saw a few and they were cranes that were standing on the road and then flew off.

Sorry you didn’t see more, Maralee, but you got some good shots. Their markings and coloring are so interesting. I love “scratching an itch”. 🙂
Thanks, Jane. I we’d had more time I would have stayed longer but we were on a time schedule and didn’t have much time. I’m just happy to have seen a couple.
