I went down to the river hoping to find my favorite heron. No luck there, but I did find an osprey. I would not have seen it perched in the tree if it hadn’t swooped down over the water. This is an uncropped photo – it came a little too close to get it all in the frame.

At key locations in the UK the Osprey are back….and in two they are sitting on eggs. For us they are still a bird on the recovery list, so good news
They were seriously endangered here in the last century due to pesticides but they are making a good recovery now and are no longer endangered. They are beautiful birds.
Pesticides did a good deal of damage here (but I think it was ignorance rather than carelessness) But what isn’t forgivable was the deliberate shooting to eliminate Osprey and other so called Birds of Prey. At least attitudes are slowly changing.
