While I was at the river watching my heron, I could hear a cacophony of birds in a tree across the river. When I looked closer I could see a large number of birds perched in the tree.

Then all of a sudden, they all took off flying and just as quickly returned to the tree. They did this several times. I’m not sure what birds they were but they could have been starlings. While the photos aren’t very interesting, they were fun to observe.

What a great swarm Maralee! If they are starlings you have a murmuration of starlings which can sometimes be in the thousands of birds sometimes mixed😊
I’ve seen videos of really big swarms of birds. This wasn’t that big but it was fun to watch.
I don’t think that they are starlings. They might be jackdaws or crows (if you have these birds in your area) who both behave like that.
I don’t think we have jackdaws unless they go by another name. We have crows but I’ve never seen that many together. But this is all pretty new to me.
