I’m officially obsessed with this bird. I see it almost every day now at different parts of the river but most often it is on the rocks along the walking trail. I am patiently waiting for it to go fishing. There were a few times today that I thought it was going to fish but no such luck.

It beats being obsessed with politics.
Yup. I need my obsession with birds to get relief from all the politics.
I love the photos of this bird!! Thank you for sharing – how about giving the bird a name?
It would have to be a generic name since I don’t know if it’s male or female.
It’s a very healthy obsession in my view.
It is. It gets me outside no matter if it’s raining, snowing, freezing . . .
Magical!
Thank you, David.
They are magnificent birds and you photographed them beautifully, Maralee. They are gawky when they fly. 🙂
Thank you, Jane.
telling the difference between male & female is very hard.Wait for mating season & see two of them together. The male is much larger! Each face is like a finger print, you can tell who’s who by looking closer.
In the mean time, maybe choose a unisex name?
Halo,Hero,Hunter?
Of course they “must” begin with the letter “H”.
I hope I see two of them together at some point. I do believe there are two herons in the area. While watching one, I saw another fly off in the distance. They’re pretty distinct when they’re flying.
mating season is between March-May.
It’s easy to be obsessed with this gorgeous bird! 🙂
There are worse things to be obsessed about.
