I don’t know what kind of bird this is. It is about the size of a robin . . . maybe a little smaller. It was flying from rock to rock in the river and then would dive into the river and come back out. The river was very fast as you can see by the bubbling of the water around the bird. It just kept diving into the water and the flying back out. Any ideas what this bird might be?

I got rid of all my bird books, and at first I thought it might have been a brewer’s blackbird. Now I’m not sure as the beak seems longer and thinner. Sorry.
If it is a Brewer’s, it’s the female.
Hum…an American Dipper? Check that out and see what you think? I’ve tried to see and photograph one for a few years but keep missing it.
I hope you find out what it is and if it’s a Lifer for you Congratulations!!
That sure looks like it. Thanks so much. It was so much fun to watch. I don’t know how it could fly out of the turbulent water but it did every time.
MP! 🙂 How exciting and fun it must have been.
