Birds of Hawaii #6: Red-Crested Cardinal

The Red-Crested Cardinal, or Brazilian Cardinal, was introduced to Hawaii from South American around 1930.  An interesting fact that I read is that notwithstanding its similar name, this bird is not closely related to the true cardinal family. It is called the Red Kramer, named after the character on Seinfeld, due to its similar “hairdo”.

You could have fooled me.
