We have had a layer of smoke hanging over the city for several days due to several fires in the state. Each morning this week, the sun rose as a huge, red ball but I didn’t time it right to take photos until this morning.
This is actually 2 photos combined. I had to take one with the metering on the sun so I could get the actual redness of it. The second photo was metered on the sky so I could get the sky colors.
There was some lens flare that I removed in Photoshop.

I have a few of those from when we had the fires . . . way behind on my photos.
It’s too bad there are so many of these sunrises out there. We had another series of thunderstorms come through last week and a few fires were started, although I believe they stopped all of them before they grew much. We’re supposed to have more thunderstorms this week.
Haunting.
great photo, Mar
Thanks, Mo.
Very impressive!
Thank you very much.
Just one two words – wow magical. Have a great weekend.
Thanks, Viveka.
Great capture!
Do you think HDR might be another solution for the great dynamic range?
HDR probably would have worked. When I do HDR I like to use a tripod and I didn’t have time to set everything up so it was hand held. Maybe I can get up early enough one morning to actually have time to get set up. 🙂
I know exactly the problem. That’s why I prefer taking sunsets! 😉
An excellent work, which makes us know a little, what they are going through there. greeting
Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
Wow that sun really pops! Almost a 3D effect. Nice job
Thank you Kristen.
Did you use a tripod so you can keep the camera in the right place.
I usually try to use a tripod but I didn’t have time to set it up so this was hand held.
Two photos combined, magical effect.
Thank you, Seeker.
Clever work. You have much more patience than I have.
Thank you.
Amazing.
Thank, David.
Amazing! 🙂
The smoke has now left the area so we haven’t had any more red sunrises lately. But the fire season won’t be over till fall so who knows.
