Some thirty years ago, when I lived in Hawaii, I was a member of an outrigger canoe racing team.

My husband, who paddled for a canoe club of mostly police officers, organized our all women’s team and coached us.

We had a very successful season – we won all of our races except one.

On that one we were disqualified at the start because our canoe’s ama (the floating arm that sticks out in the water) got caught by another team’s canoe and we flipped over. Â We weren’t able to right the canoe and get situated before the starter’s gun went off.

But it was a lot of fun and gave me  lot of wonderful memories.

Fun! After the first one, you don’t need to tell us who you are. You were the tallest! 🙂 That was me, too.
I was always the tallest in my class . . . even towering over the boys. They eventually caught up though.
Awwww, sweet memories! 🙂
They are sweet memories.
Wonderful memories!
Yes, they are. Sigh . . .
Now this is a wonderful post Maralee… our younger days stored in photo form…. how wonderful… quite a tall girl I see…
I have so many wonderful memories. I wish I had photos of all of them.
You are tall like Uncle Wesley. What beautiful photos and memories. It looks like a lot of fun. You still look wonderful 30 years later!
I think I got all of dad’s height. It sure didn’t come from mom.
What a fun and wonderful post. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Thank you, Inga.
Wow …. look what we have here …. stunning girls. Great post .. canoeing is a great fitness – did you do hula hula dancing too ???? Living on Hawaii … keep on dreaming Wivi. Thanks for a great post.
Thanks, Viveka. No, I didn’t do the hula, although I did take a class in Tahitian dancing once. 🙂
