We have had some unusually warm weather for this time of year and every afternoon this week we have had some “pop-up” thunderstorms. It has been so dry here this winter that these storms have the potential to be very destructive.
A couple of nights ago, I noticed the sky turning an incredible shade of purple. I grabbed my camera to take a few shots before it disappeared. It only lasted a few moments, but I was able to take a couple of shots.
Maralee

Where Do you live Maralee? Seems to be very remote… But nice!
It’s not actually that remote. I live in Oregon and the city I live in has a population of about 85,000. But I live right on the edge of town and we have this big, open field across the street from us.
You smashed my imaginations! 😉
Based on you photo I thought you might have miles of wilderness around your house… Now it came to my mind, that we would have seen a supermarket, if you would have turned your camera direction 90 degrees… 😀
Too much imagination?!
Best regards from Stefan
Those are amazing! They look like they are from a magical place. Oz, perhaps?
Thank you so much. We can get some very interesting skies in the summer when the afternoon thunderstorms come through.
Looks like what we had yesterday.
I’m sure we can expect more of these over the next few months.
Those are incredible, almost surreal!
Thank you very much.
That is a threatening cloud formation, Maralee.
We get these thunderstorms coming through during the summer months. They usually last a couple of hours and then pass out of the area.
Problems ahead …. I don’t like thunder … we had some yesterday .. without rain – that came later … in the afternoon. 2-3 big bangs, but we didn’t notice any lightning. I’m very fascinated of the lightning. Some drama going on in both photos, beautiful.
I don’t mind the thunder and lightning but a couple of my cats are terrified of it.
I don’t blame the cats … I often get headache too .. because of the low pressure in the air.
I like the pictures a lot. I hope we don’t see those clouds here though.
Thanks. We get these thunderstorms coming through in the afternoons throughout the summer. Sometimes the skies are incredible.
Beautiful light. I like the soft colors you caught. 🙂
Thank you. Mother nature can produce some great colors.
These are amazing – they look like paintings.
Thank you, Bella.
Amazing light! The second shot is just fantastic. 🙂
Thank you, Inga.
