As I was leaving for work this morning . . . in the dark, the crescent moon and a planet we shining in the eastern sky. It was really much prettier than this. The sky was a dark blue, but if I exposed for the sky, the shutter was too slow and the moon was fuzzy. So I had to spot expose on the moon which resulted in the darker sky. I’m not happy with these photos, but time got away from me and they were all I could come up with today.

That would be Venus. Yes, difficult to capture, especially hand-held.
Thanks for confirming that it was Venus. I didn’t want to say that in my blog in case I wasn’t right . . . then I’d just look stupid.
And I think they came out well.. great photos… tried to capture Venus in a shot with the moon just never been successful…
Thanks, Rob. If I could have taken the whole scene and gotten the moon it would have been nice. The horizon was a beautiful red/orange. But if I had done that, the moon would have looked like a pin hole in the sky. 🙂
Not happy? Let that go. These are very cool. We don’t know what your naked eye saw.
Thanks, Wendy. I sometimes get frustrated when the photos don’t come out like what I actually saw. But that’s okay. 🙂
Photographing the moon is tough. I had a similar problem. I was able to see the moon early Friday morning along with several constellations as I left my daughter’s apartment with her to get breakfast before my 2-hour drive home. The sky was stunning and I thought, ‘i really need to get up earlier more times so as not to miss this.’
I would have liked to have taken the whole scene. The horizon has a beautiful red/orange glow. But then the moon would have been very tiny.
Definitely a case for a little Photoshp magic.
Fantastic!
Thank you, Bonnie.
