As we move into October, the holidays are looming before us. First up – Halloween. There is a farm about 30 minutes north of us that has a big pumpkin patch and fall activities every October. We decided to take a drive out there and see what it was all about. This was the first weekend it was open, so it wasn’t very busy and all of the events weren’t yet set up. But it was a beautiful day and we had a good time wandering around taking photos.
The pumpkin patch is huge. All the little kids were having a great time wandering through the patch to find the best pumpkin. This little boy seems to like this pumpkin. His mother was gracious enough to let me take his photo. It turns out his birthday is on Halloween so it’s an extra-special day for him.
I love old buildings and old barns in particular. They have a market inside this old barn where they sell pumpkins, gourds, apples, and other fall inspired merchandise.
They also have a very large corn maze. We didn’t go through it this time but I think we’ll go back in a couple of weeks when they have more events going on.

Nice photos. We were at a pumpkin patch today too. I’ll be posting photos sometime this week. I love going there. It reminds me of the excitement when our kids were young.
Thanks, Christine. Going to places like this brings back some wonderful childhood memories. I think that’s one of the reasons I like to go . . . the innocent wonder of children.
Love to see the mountain in the background of your last photo. Even though pumpkin patches look the same, their locations are vastly different!
Thank you, Bonnie.
Amazing orange touches… and beautiful photographs… You inspired me. Thank you dear Maralee, Blessing and Happiness to you both. Love, nia
Thank you, Nia.
Love these pics . We don’t celebrate Halloween in South Africa, but I don’t really mind that. I think we’ve got more than enough holidays as it is. What a handsome little boy! And I really like the last picture – a lot! 🙂
Thank you, Zelmare. Halloween was so much fun when I was a kid. We’d go “trick-or-treating” and come home with bags of candy. They don’t do it quite so much anymore – it gets too dangerous for the little ones. Now they have more group Halloween party events. It’s still a fun time of year.
Wow … what a post, Maralee !!!! Hundreds of happy pumpkins … wonderful. My pick is the photo with the boy hanging over the pumpkin – such a happy photo. The boy are adorable … Great post.
Thanks, Viveka. He was a pretty cute kid. Oh, to be young again. 🙂
Yes, I wouldn’t mind being 20 years younger … I thought it was a kid to some of your friends. He so relaxed with you and the camera. A charmer.
I love the first photo with the pumpkins in the foreground. All of them are great, but I really like the depth of field in that one.
Thanks, Carissa. I tried it both with a shallow depth of field and an infinite depth of field. I liked the shallow depth of field the best too.
