As has become my monthly tradition, tonight was another full moon, so I had to photograph it. The May moon is known as the Full Flower Moon. The Farmer’s Almanac describes it as:

Flowers spring forth in abundance this month. Some Algonquin tribes knew this full Moon as the Corn Planting Moon or the Milk Moon.
It is also a “super moon” month, where the full moon appears 14% larger than it normally does. We were fortunate enough to have clear skies tonight and had a beautiful view of the full moon.

P.S. I know have a Facebook Page for my photography and would like for you to take a look and “like” us on Facebook. Click here to go to the link.
Love the Face book page, is there a follow button somewhere that one can get a notice to watch your activity? Took some of the moon myself and intended to post them today, seeing yours has made me decide to post something else. Yours are so good mine do not compare.
Maralee … you have catch the moon for me … stunning, now you have to frame the moon with some trees and clouds … to get that magic, mystery and spokey. The middle one is my favorite. Girl, you are getting so good.
Lots of informative links as well as interesting facts. By the way, it’s 14% brighter, not larger. I think it’s only in the range of 3-5% larger, but could not find exact numbers.
Great shots, and I too try to have trees or other structures along with the moon to give it a sense of scale.
Thanks for the link. I’ve always been fascinated by the moon – I think it was ever since I was a kid and they walked on the moon. I got my 14% information from our local paper. It said it would appear 14% larger and 30% brighter. But this is a relatively small town and I can’t always believe what the paper prints.
Hmm . . . I’m finding conflicting numbers, with many matching the 14% 30% you quote.
I think the 14% comes from the difference between the farthest the moon is and the closest it is. My smaller numbers are a comparison from last month. Here is another article that touches on the same:
The thing that bothers me a bit about many of the articles is they imply a spectacular change for that day relative to last month or next month, and it’snot. And it’s even less so between one supermoon and another.
#2 is my favorite! I didn’t go out and shoot last night. I did the night before, knowing the moon wasn’t quite full, but doing it anyway. The results were so-so. Your’s, on the other hand, are fantastic!
