I enjoy a lot of flowers, but the calla lily is one of my favorites. It grows wild along the coast of Oregon. I think one of the things that draws me to the calla lily is the elegant lines.

Since we still seem to be in winter here, and I don’t have the inclination to go out in the wet and cold when I’m wanting it to be spring, I’ve been photographing a number of flowers. So today, I’m doing the calla lily.

I have several calla lilies and each of them seems to have different lines, so I took a couple different ones to photograph and used different backgrounds. I was trying to focus on the beautiful lines of the flowers. I try to use natural light as much as possible, so these were all done in natural light.

Maralee

Another good series. Thanks.
Very lovely photos.
Beautiful Photos Maralee!
I just adore Lily’s and these are stunning.
Beautiful photos!
Stunning! The Calla Lily is such a graceful flower and you’ve captured it so well.
PS- had to reblog this! 🙂
Thank you!! I am so flattered. . . and speechless. Thanks.
People are already gushing over them! 😉
Reblogged this on SKEdazzles and commented:
Thought I’d share with post with you from Maralee’s “Through My Lens”. I just think she did such a wonderful job of showcasing these beautiful Calla Lilies. Enjoy!
Very nicely and elegantly represented. Very clean lines. Reminds me of Georgia O’Keefe, one of my favorite painters.
Thank you very much. I, too, am a fan of Georgia O’Keefe.
simply beautiful. did u use anything specific for the background?
Thank you. I used two different backgrounds. One was just some black cloth and the other was the back of a yellow and white patterned material. I didn’t use the front side because the yellow was too strong for me.
Very pretty.
Beautiful series! I especially love #3 and #5.
Beautiful subject for macro. Very good
My favorite flower – top photo my favorite – amazing what deep you can get into you photo – if there is anything I don’t like about my camera is’t that the macro is not so good. Where spoiled with my big EOS – every I could come so close – nearly inside the flower.
MY Swenglish … !!!!!! Hope you understand what I want to say here.
Your Swenglish is just fine. 🙂
How beautiful! I find that first picture particularly gorgeous. Here in South Africa we call them ‘varkore’ in Afrikaans, which translates to pig’s ears, can you believe!!!!! Or Arum lilies. 🙂
Thank you. I was reading up on the calla lily and it looks like they originated in South Africa. I’m finding a lot of flower species originate there. It must be beautiful with all the beautiful flowers.
We have a very interesting country, much like yours. We have areas that are lush and green and just so beautiful it brings tears to your eyes. And then the are the areas that are dry and harsh and stark and one cannot imagine people living there, but they do! So yes, we do have areas where the flora is abundant and it looks like Eden! 🙂
Gentle colors and so delicate.
Bill
Thank you so much.
I got here via SKEdazzles – stunning photos, I particularly like the first one. In all, the lines are so fluid, just beautiful.
Thank you so much. I’m very honored that SKEdazzles reblogged my post. I admire her photography. She is a great inspiration to me.
wow Maralee, these are just gorgeous!
Very beautiful photos. I especially love them against the black fabric. It just makes them pop.
Yes, our gray soggy Oregon has not been alluring for a photo jaunt. I have managed a few between rain storms of plum blossoms last weekend and cherry blossoms a couple of days ago. Today, not inviting at all.
Summer will come at least by September 😉
These are gorgeous! I love calla lilies too, and the lines you captured in them are just beautiful!
Thank you. I think the elegant lines on the calla lily are one of the reasons I like them so much. So simple, yet so beautiful.
Incredible again. I’m going to have to get my thesaurus out for beauty… it’s a daily thing with you. These calla lilies are simply sensual and frankly erotic if I may say so. And again blown up and framed. Maybe you could start selling prints on your site.
Thank you for sharing these fabulous images!
One of my favorites flowers, formal, strong and such beauty in the contrast of bloom and foliage. your photography is perfect.
Thank you so much. They’re one of my favorite flowers but it seems I have different favorites depending on the time of year.
Beautiful!
Thank you so much. They’re one of my favorite flowers.
Superb! Just beautiful!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your comments.
What stunning photos, the resultant point of focus, and slight blurring enhances the beauty of the flower, I stand in awe of your ability to make such shots, beautiful no other way to describe them.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. I am stunned by such wonderful words.
I have replied to a comment you made on my course photos but would love your input on my game photos on the following blog link.
