There is a piece of wood across from where I live that looks like a piece of driftwood. However, since we are 180 miles from the nearest ocean and there isn’t a lake within 10 miles of me, I believe it is actually a tree that was struck by lightning at one time. On closer examination, I can see bits of charred wood on it. But it has been there longer than I have lived here and the blackness from the burn has worn off. If only this piece of wood could talk, I’m sure it could tell a lot of stories.

Love the third photo, especially. Such vibrant colors. Did you do this in HDR?
Thanks. Yes, I did use HDR. I took 5 exposures with .7 stop between bracketed shots. It was hand held – I didn’t have my tripod. I usually use my tripod when I do HDR to get the photos in exactly the same spot.
All three photos are wonderful, but I really like the tones and softness of the first. Great work, Maralee!

Love that first one. Nice contrast of the soft grasses and the hard and dry wood of the tree.
You done it again …. you’re very good. Love the first and last – nearly the same angle … but so different. Like photo’s with wood as motive … givse different texture and pattern to the photo’s even it’s from the same piece of wood .. and all different angles.
