Day 67 – The Worm Moon

I learned something new today.  The full moon in March is called the “Worm Moon.”  I looked it up and this was the description:

The ‘Full Worm Moon’ is the moon that occurs in March when the sunlight is getting stronger and the frozen ground begins to thaw. You can tell the worms have begun to come awake when you find the little curly mounds of dirt on the ground. These mounds, or castings are part of nature’s way of preparing the earth for new growth. Then the flowers and herbs and trees and green grass suddenly burst out and let us know spring is here.”

We took a drive searching for a good spot to take photos of the full moon rising.  The area where we started to look didn’t have any promising areas and I was beginning to get frustrated.  It looked like the moonrise was going to be a bust.

We took a dirt road we’d never been on before to see where it would take us and hoping we could find our way back.   We came to a burned out area where the sunset was gorgeous so I figured I could at least get some sunset photos.  We had no idea where we were, but I was still looking for the moon and didn’t see it anywhere.  Then, we rounded a corner and there it was.

The photo of me taking photos was taken by my husband.

    1. Thanks. It was a very pretty evening. The area where we went had been burned out in a forest fire about 12 years ago so there are a lot of interesting elements out there. I want to go back during the daylight and take some photos. Maybe this weekned.

  1. Lovely! It’s interesting all the names from different cultures given for times associated with the moon…
