No, not the season to kill deer, but the killdeer (birds) have arrived. The irrigation canals have been drained for the winter and the mud flats have appear along the river. Killdeer love these mudflats and I find them here every fall.

Killdeer are members of the plover family and get their name from their call (although I don’t think it sounds like “kill-deer). They are fairly noisy and I can hear them before I see them.
They are a fairly common bird and can be found almost anywhere in the United State and Canada.
Maralee
It is very similar to our black-fronted Dotterell
They do look very similar.
I love these birds and you’ve captured some beauties here, Maralee.
Thanks, Jane.
Pretty birds.
