I don’t often walk along the river on my lunch break during the summer – it’s just too hot. But it has started to cool down slightly so I went out one day last week (it was still a little too warm for my taste). This female common merganser had just taken a bath and was settling down on the rock to take a rest. She hadn’t even combed her hair yet.

One of my favourite birds.
They’re one of my favorite ducks – the hooded merganser is my favorite. I like wood ducks but we don’t see them much around here.
Cute shot, love the ‘not combing her hair’ comment, made me giggle 🙂
She eventually did comb it a bit. 🙂
